CONSERVATORSHIP Conservatorship is a legal determination, made by the Probate Court that allows one person to act on behalf of another person. The designated conservator can manage the person’s property and other financial and legal matters. The conservator can also have access to medical and other records. If the only income is from SSI or SSDI, conservatorship is not necessary. In this case, a parent or other person can be appointed representative payee by the Social Security office to handle financial matters.
